A broad planning range for a ducted air-source heat pump is about $5,500 to $12,000, with premium cold-climate systems and difficult installations exceeding that. Ductless heat pumps can vary even more because the number of indoor zones changes equipment and labor.
What drives heat pump price
Capacity, SEER2/HSPF2 performance, variable-speed technology, controls, electrical service, line-set length, duct condition, backup heat and cold-climate requirements all affect price.
Common heat pump repairs
Smaller electrical or control repairs can be a few hundred dollars. Fan motors, reversing valves, coil problems and compressor repairs can run much higher. Because a heat pump works year-round, age and total run time should be considered when comparing a major repair with replacement.
